Alpaca Rain (Taupe)
Made from a unique blend of grey and red fleeces we have created a truly stunning colour! Alpaca Rain makes you think of the days when you would prefer to sit by the fire wrapped up in a warm blanket working on your latest knitting project. The colour seems to change depending on what you wear it with and this is definitely one of our most versatile shades.
Alpaca Rain is a fantastic compliment to Alpaca Mist when combining two colours.
“I’ve been knitting for years but I’ve never knitted with anything like this, the yarn is amazing, I cannot get over how beautiful it is and I would recommend it to anybody”. Lynda B
Purl’s 100% pure alpaca yarn is not dyed, all the colours are completely natural and the fibre is source from local breeders. Due to our yarn being completely natural colours there will be a variation in the different batches made depending on what colour fleece goes into each particular blend.
Our yarn is created using alpaca fleeces sourced mainly from farms in the South of England. Our own herd of 26 alpacas always go in the blend as well as fibre from farms we know and trust. We only use the finest fibre for our yarn and create a stunning and soft end product that is lovely to knit with and feels amazing to wear!
Our yarn comes in two thicknesses; Fine and Medium. Fine is equivalent to Sports weight (this thickness is in between 4 ply and DK) and Medium is a Worsted weight (this thickness lies between DK and Aran).
Fine: 20 sts and 29 rows on 4 mm needles over a 10 cm square.
Medium: 17 sts and 24 rows on 5 mm needles over a 10 cm square.
We recommend always knitting a tension square to check your tension against the pattern you are working from and adjust needle size accordingly.
Fine: 50g ball, 126 yards/116 meters
Medium: 50g ball, 84 yards/77 meters
