The Spring Knitting and Stitching Show – is it spring yet??

Well, for one it didn’t feel much like spring! London met us with rain and bitterly cold winds. To the extent that a metal part on the roof of the flat we stayed in came loose and kept Kari-Helene awake all night. Tracy found her asleep in the kitchen in the morning. Luckily the weather got better and the roof got fixed so the rest of the week got a lot better!

We stayed in a stunning flat near Shepherds Bush and within a short walk to Olympia. It always makes our stay better if we can start the day with a quick walk and not have to worry about parking, and waking up in a space that felt as tranquil and peaceful as this was an unexpected bonus.

A perfect place for Kari-Helene to do some knitting

Waking up to this stunning light and city view was not wrong!

The kitchen was a beautiful place for a quiet moment before the hectic day at the show.

Kari-Helene had a bit of time walking round the show on the Sunday. Being Mother’s Day, we expect a lot of the regular attendees had other things on their schedule for the day and we had more time on our hands than usual. It’s a real treat to be able to take a proper look at what other creative people are producing and to be able to chat with the lovely people themselves is always inspiring.

Kari-Helene especially liked Stitch & Story by Jen and Jenny. She had a chat with both over the day and love their approach to colour and quality. It’s easy to get pretty pictures when you have such pretty products!

Stitch & Story ‘The lil’ merino’ yarn is so soft and squishy!

Another favourite was Wool and the Gang. For a company with such simple set up, they do attract a fantastic crowd and following. Their imagery is very strong as always, and the simple, clean aesthetics really work with their product. They focused on their chunky yarn at the show displaying a few selected products and displayed the yarn in paper bags and on a huge white board. Simple, yet really quite cool!

Mrs Moon’s stall always gets Kari-Helene’s creative juices flowing and if anything is going to make her pick up a crochet hook it would be their fabulous home textiles. The colours are so soft and pretty, and the yarn is incredibly soft too! The way the colours are used in the designs is fantastic and makes for some truly stunning pieces!

We also had time to chat with a lot of you fabulous people! You came to see us, some for the first time, some becoming regulars! We even had a few of you turn up in your knitted garments. With the weather being so unkind, we could all do with a little bit of extra warmth in the form of fabulous alpaca knitwear! Kari-Helene wrapped herself up in the Venus Coat the whole weekend!

Sophie started this project at our February workshop – finished in 5 days!!
Kari-Helene didn’t get this lady’s name, but her Bonnie was knitted for her by her mum!
Christine knitted Balboa Waistcoat in the colour Alpaca Light. It looks really good!
A big thank you to everyone who came to see us at the show, it means a lot to have your support! Next we are off to Edinburgh for the Edinburgh Yarn Festival. Are any of you coming as well? If you want to keep up with our whereabouts, why not join our mailing list here or take a look at our news and events page here.
