Well we think they’re Olympic! Two of Tracy’s alpacas have given birth and, fingers crossed, all is well.
Adie (or Angel’s Delight as her pedigree certificate says) has had a lot of problems with this reproduction lark but at last she has her own little cria to fuss over and she is so proud of her. This year, the letter is ‘I’ so our first born is going to be called Inca, a lovely word with strong South American connections, and she is adorable. Tracy’s ability with technology is renowned for its lack and because it was sunny (yes remember that day?) she couldn’t see the screen and kept thinking she was taking copious amounts of still images. Well, the camera was on video and so she ended up with loads of film footage that took the word ‘amateur’ to a whole new level! This little clip is so sweet, but you might have to watch it 2 or 3 times just to get the gist! Proper images to come soon, promise…
Next, we’d like to introduce you to Iago, Dusty’s little boy. Now Dusty has a ‘history’, bless her; Iago is her 3rd cria but Gaia and Cooper didn’t live long. Iago is also premature so his legs are a bit wobbly and he is utterly inept at feeding himself. Dusty is very patient with him as he fumbles around and eventually finds what he’s looking for. He’s not at all shy and comes up to say hello as soon as he sees anyone who might tell him how gorgeous he is.
As you can see, Iago is in the ‘Observation’ pen, meaning he is close to where the people are; this is just a precautionary measure until he is up to his proper weight, feeding properly and strong enough to be put in with the other mothers and cria.
