What a difference some steam makes!
I know I go on about this a lot, but it really is true; steaming is the best thing you can do to your alpaca knitwear! It is almost magical to watch how hovering the steam iron above your finished knitting smooths out loose tension and makes the knitting appear even. I lately finished knitting a Tansy tie in brown and whilst steaming took a few photos to show the difference.
I think it is – almost – my favourite bit about knitting. Total satisfaction when everything smooths out and looks all professional. Steaming is super easy. This is how I do it:
First fill your iron with water, then turn it on high temperature. Turn the steam function on max. Lay your knitting as flat as possible on your iron board or on a towel. I do not pin my knitting, but if preferred this can be done at this stage. Hover your iron about a cm above your knitting. I never let the iron touch my knitting as this flattens the stitch texture. See how the steam goes to work and how well the alpaca yarn responds to it! Give the knitting a gentle pat and stretch if needed and – voila!
